First, wherever the pet was found, talk to residents in the area; see if they can identify the pet and their owner. If you are not able to locate the owner, take the pet to a Veterinarian's office. Most all Vets will scan the pet for a microchip at no charge. When at the Vet's and you are unsure of the breed, ask. It's also a good idea to determine approximate age. We realize that financially you may not be able to provide vaccinations for this pet. If you can, do.
If you would like to surrender the pet and we are unable to take in at this time, you may go to www.petfinder.org to locate other rescue groups. Please, keep in mind there are thousands of homeless pets in our area. Sadly rescue groups are not able to help them all. We do all that we possibly can, please, if you are able to help a stray pet, do! Don't leave them on the streets to suffer. If you are unable to keep the pet and not able to find a rescue group to take in, ask a friend, family, co-worker, or neighbor if they would like to adopt a pet. If not, the last resort is the City Shelter. No one wants an animal euthanized. But, if you have exhausted all resources for finding help, email us at tnsafehavenforpets@yahoo.com.
